Proforest at the World Cocoa Foundation Partnership meeting

This year the World Cocoa Foundation Partnerships Meeting was held in Amsterdam on 6-7 February. The theme this year was Aligning for Global Action and some key topics were discussed such as achieving living incomes for farmers and the forthcoming European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Proforest's Sophie Higman moderated a lively and diverse panel on Day 2 on Global Strategies for Restoration and Conservation. The panel brought together 4 speakers providing their insights on very different approaches to restoration and conservation.

Niels Haak,  Director of Sustainable Coffee Partnerships at Conservation International brought insights from the coffee sector and CI’s work in Peru.  Pedro Amaral, Head of Cocoa Climate Sustainability at Mars described how a global company is moving rapidly towards sourcing only deforestation and conversion-free cocoa.

Arturo Tovar, Business Development Manager for Landscale, discussed the importance of gathering and validating landscape-wide data to enable the measurement of progress and impacts; and Tiffany Talsma, Team Lead for the Data Driven Sustainability at the CGIAR brought to life the use of data to support conservation strategies that provide real benefits to local people at the same time as protecting the environment.
