Tea and palm in East Africa: ensuring responsible production

Proforest recently visited Uganda and Rwanda to conduct HCV assessments and ensure the production of tea and oil palm is not occurring at the expense of the local environment and communities.

The assessments took place within the beautiful landscapes of Buvuma Islands, in the northern regions of Lake Victoria in Uganda; and in Nyaruguru - a rural mountainous district in Southern Province of Rwanda. The work was contracted by Oil Palm Buvuma Limited (OPBL), and Unilever Tea Rwanda Limited (UTRL) respectively.

Find out more about these assessments in our latest photo story: Tea and palm in East Africa.
